The Role:
We are seeking a motivated Health, Safety & Human Resource Coordinator to join our team immediately. This unique, combined role integrates people management with workplace safety, supporting our workforce through recruitment, onboarding, and employee relations while also supporting our health and safety program. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing people and  promoting a strong, consistent safety culture across all operations. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about both people and performance, ensuring our teams are supported, engaged, and working safely every day.

Key Responsibilities:
Human Resources:
  • Recruitment & Hiring: Lead full-time and seasonal recruitment including job postings, screening, interviewing, and hiring.
  • Onboarding & Integration: Coordinate employee orientation and onboarding processes including benefit administration.
  • Social Media Management: Be the voice of WCL online; responsible for regular social media posting to showcase our projects, celebrate team successes, and assist with recruitment branding.
  • Record Keeping/Administration: Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee files including onboarding records, driver files, training certifications, and safety documentation. Track and record time-off requests and attendance.
  • Program Development: Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of HR and safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Conflict Resolution & Support: Act as a professional point of contact for employee inquiries, providing fair and consistent guidance to maintain a positive, respectful workplace. Support supervisors and management with HR guidance and best practices.
  • Culture & Morale: Lead company events and morale-boosting initiatives to strengthen our long-term team atmosphere.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):
  • HSE Administration: Work closely with the HSE Manager to coordinate and manage site-specific safety programs and maintain digital safety records.
  • Training Programs: Coordinate and track the safety training matrix including training certifications for all workers and ensure competency requirements are met
  • Return to Work Coordination: Assist the HSE Manager to manage WCB claims and coordinate the return-to-work program
  • Safety Performance Metrics: Track and report on safety performance metrics (e.g., TRIF, LTIF, WCB data) within contractor management platforms (e.g., ISNetworld, ComplyWorks, Avetta)  
  • Field Based Observations: Assist Health and Safety Manager in rolling out safety protocols such as inspections, investigations, emergency drills, safety meetings, and observations as required. 

What You Need:
  • Experience: 2–5 years in a Human Resource or Safety-related role. Experience in heavy civil or underground utilities is a significant asset.
  • Education:  HSA/NCSO designation, degree or diploma in Human Resources and/or Occupational Health & Safety condidered a significant asset.
  • Credentials: Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract (required for site travel). 
  • Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) is essential. Ability to manage high-volume administrative tasks during peak construction months.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills; you must be comfortable communicating with a diverse workforce of 250+ people, from field operators to senior management.
